I’ll preface this by saying I’ve worked from home for roughly 7 years now. Through this time, I’ve had multiple jobs and all supported some form of remote working. Many times I commuted to client sites a day or two a week. Sometimes I’d go to the office for team or company wide meetings. Overall, my days in the office were typically 2–3 days a week.
As a mother I’ve enjoyed the benefits of working from home. I’ve felt less stress in being able to manage my workload as well as motherhood. I’ve been able to block my calendar to…
Last night while sitting in my office playing guitar, my son came in the room, little guitar in hand, tears streaming down his face. He said he isn’t anything. I looked at him puzzled. He said his sister is a crafter, his father is a coder and I’m a guitarist. We all are “things” but he isn’t.
I can’t lie. I was smiling on the inside. The fact that he called me a guitarist was wonderful. It’s a Covid hobby. I am slowly teaching myself via You Tube. I discovered I enjoy playing so I play everyday. But it feels…
Months ago, my husband turned all Wim Hof on me. He complained so much about the cold showers I had to try them. I pride myself with having more willpower so it became a competition.
I’ve now been taking cold showers for nearly 2 months. I don’t plan on stopping. I started to see what my husband was complaining about but kept doing it because …I like it.
I never thought I’d say that. I’m freezing most of the time so liking cold showers is well outside my comfort zone.
These are the benefits I’ve personally noticed.
Each morning, I…
Ever see a musician perform and think wow, I wish I could do that.
Ever see an athlete train and wish you had their strength, health or fitness?
I’ve been there too. I’ve wondered how people I admire achieve success.
Initially I thought they were blessed with natural ability. I assumed they were cut from the talented cloth.
It was a lie. They are like us. And we can be successful too.
By following these easy habits, we can work towards our version of success, whatever that may be.
Visualizing outcomes is inherent to increasing your confidence to allow you…
This past year has sucked for moms. For those of us used to working outside the house, we’re now trapped at home with our children. For those used to working at home, we’ve lost the peace and quiet we once had. As the days blend into the nights, our minds shift from virtual schooling to our day jobs to what to make for dinner. We’re overwhelmed. We’re stressed. And we realize we’re not getting any younger.
Are you with me? Do you feel like this too? Moms during the pandemic have had it tough. …
For as long as I can remember, I’ve challenged status quo. In high school, I didn’t have the same taste in boys as my friends. I liked the rebellious ones. I liked the guys that worked to get what they wanted. I liked the ones that didn’t have easy lives.
I decided to pursue a degree in Manufacturing Engineering because of lack of women in that field. I wanted to prove that women can do things men can do. I was one of 6 women in my undergrad class.
I was the only woman on my team at my first…
We are creatures of habit in my house. When the pandemic first started, I became lax with our schedules. There was no point in getting up early and getting to bed early with all of us being home doing school and work virtually. Over time, we gravitated back to our schedules.
A year later, we have a new pandemic schedule. We continue to get up before the children to have our morning coffee in peace. We watch podcasts and usually end up pausing once or twice to discuss what we hear.
The children are in a hybrid schedule with alternating…
This past year, most of us have realized less is more. As we continue to stay home, we’ve evaluated our expenses. Those that are employed are saving money without the usual commute and daily expenses. Those without jobs are likely spending as little as possible to maximize their dollar. Regardless of employment, we’re all trying to make do with less.
We’ve realized a big house and nice cars don’t mean much when we’re all home. The financially successful person you envy has had to quarantine just like you.
Yet with this realization, we’re continuing to spend. The numbers are surprising…
I’ve been writing most of my life. For the past two years, I’ve written consistently.
I write some quality pieces and some that are absolute garbage. Yet, I continue to write.
Professionally, I’m on my 3rd company in 2 years. I’ve managed to continue to write through them all. When work is slow, I write. When work is stressful, I write. Writing gives me peace.
Yet even though I know this, I continued to focus on the wrong things.
The articles I spend time on don’t get a single view. Those that I write quickly seem to do better. We…
The past couple years have been life changing. I’ve realized things about myself. I’ve stopped caring about the opinions of others. I’ve accepted the things I can’t control and focused on the things I can.
I can’t pinpoint when behavior shifted, but over time, I grew into another person. I no longer care to get my nails done every two weeks. I no longer want the exact outfit I see on an Instagram model. I no longer seem to be interested in the same things.
The pandemic contributed to speeding up my awareness. I didn’t want to waste time on…
